THE
PEARL CAFÉ SEASONAL HOURS
There
is a love for detail that shows up not only in the food,
but in the artwork and creative energy contained in THE
PEARL.
It becomes
obvious that they were meant to go hand in hand … that sharing
a meal that is fresh, creative & visual in an ambient setting
is a lovely thing.
THE
PEARL CAFÉ has been a Taste Our Island Award
finalist in both of their first two years of operation.
This award recognizes restaurateurs who support sustainable
regional food systems.
The menu changes often to reflect the seasonality of locally
sourced ingredients.
Maxine
Delaney, owns and operates THE PEARL CAFÉ.
She has ventured down various creative paths including leather
coat design & production & was one of fourteen designers
to represent Canada at the 1st World Fashion Exposition
in Osaka Japan. |
Maxine
worked in set decoration, buying and scenic painting in
the film industry as well as being involved in cooking,
opening and managing various restaurants.
Maxine
did many of the reno’s on the café herself including the
addition of some interesting historic features. The slate
tiles on the floor of the bay window and countertops were
salvaged from the roof of a home in Cardigan, formerly owned
by Dr. Alexander Best whose father Charles is of insulin
fame. The beautiful wide wood moldings in the bay window
came from Westwood, an estate in Charlottetown that was
dismantled in the early 80’s.
The “stuff”
that decorates THE PEARL is a collection
from Maxine’s life, work and travels. Everything has a story.
As an avid appreciator of art, there is an ever changing
collection of Canadian Paintings as well as her own impressionistic
paintings & photography. THE PEARL CAFÉ
is a labor of love for Maxine whose wish is create a memorable
dining experience for all who come into her space. |
